Hamilton Diocese Skills & Spirituality Weekend – Waihi Beach 17/18 May 2008

Fr Kevin Hennessy led 54 people in the Skills & Spirituality formation weekend at Waihi Beach Community Hall. People were accommodated in various Waihi Beach houses generously made available. It was great to share with about 20 of these people who had their first experience of a Passionist Family Group weekend.

The New Zealand emblem for Passionist Family Group Movement, the beautiful pastel drawing made by Michael Pervan, was handed over from present custodians Rob & Lynn Hill (National Directors) to Paeroa parish, represented by Maggie Gribble and Adriana van der Pas in preparation for their 20th anniversary of starting Passionist Family Group’s in NZ. The emblem will then be passed to succeeding parishes as they too reach their 20th anniversary, the next being East Coast Bays in July, then on to Wanganui and Melville.

Features the weekend were sharing of stories, our human insignificance in the vastness of the universe, the importance of song and music in our lives. The theme song for the weekend was ‘Standing on the Shoulders’ which was the basis for some moving reflection on the wonderful support and foundation so many people have provided to the Passionist Family Group Movement over its 20 year history in New Zealand, and also reflection on those who will follow to grow the movement into the next 20 years.
